Personality:

Raidou is usually a quiet, reserved young man who is not completely comfortable expressing himself. Underneath his cool demeanor is a kind, generous soul who really desires the best for everyone. Even in his kindness he still is focused on his duty, refusing to back down or relent even in the face of impossible odds, the only time he dares to refuse is when he’s ordered to do something utterly repulsive.

Early canon Raidou is still green, and having been raised in a strict environment and having no one to confide in, Raidou has essentially become selectively mute with Gouto-Douji often speaking for him when someone can hear him, while Raidou mostly gestures. By the time the Events of Soulless Army ends, he has gotten comfortable enough to start speaking on his own.

Among people he either does not know well or is working for, he is unfailing polite though he will not lie. He keeps a professional demeanor, always keeping his promises and being very prompt with any aid he renders. Raidou also comes off as quite stoic, very rarely showing any change in his expression no matter how shocking or horrifying the situation is. The young man also is quite quick to roll with the punches, quickly assessing and changing his plans as the need arises.

While he respects both humans and demons, if a conflict arises, and there’s no obvious party in the wrong, Raidou is more inclined to assist humans since they are less able to defend themselves.

The number of people that he could count as friends is small, but those people will find that he is extremely trusting and very loyal. While he seems to have infinite patience with his friends’ eccentricities, he is much more open about his opinions – ribbing them about their silliness and even “mouthing off” to his boss Narumi, or tormenting Gouto with foxtails. Johei is still unsure how to physically express himself, though his more relaxed body language and chattier mood is enough of a sign for people to know he enjoys their company.


While he inherited the role of Raidou Kuzunoha, he considers it only part of his identity. He respects the tradition of "Throwing away his name" by being known publicly as a Kuzunoha, he does not abandon the feelings of Johei Kamo the student. There are many times throughout his work where what he wants departs from what the Yatagarasu and his role demands. For example, he is repulsed once he realized what the Tendo wedding ceremony really entails, but he could not truly act against it since it was deemed a necessary act to keep the village prosperous and to keep the assassins supplied so they can do wetworks at the Yatagarasu's bidding. He could not bring himself to directly rebel against the events, but he decided not to turn in Dahn to his father, though he still tries to make sure Dahn's plan to save his sister will not harm more innocent lives, stepping in to stop him when it goes too far. Johei knows logically that staying unattached to people will make his job easier, but he just could not bring himself to do that, and it causes him to hesitate whenever his duty and his desire are at cross purposes, even the question of 'Who are you speaking as?' will make him pause since he can't decide which is more important.

Canon Powers:
As a Devil Summoner, Raidou is both trained in physical combat as a swordsman and gunslinger in order to battle demons, giving him good physical skills.

However, his main strength is the power to capture or negotiate with demons to be essentially his familiars in order to command them in battle, giving him a whole variety of skills he would otherwise never have.

Raidou has shown other more passive abilities due to his natural affinity and training, such as the ability to see demons that normal humans can’t, enter the Dark Realm without suffering ill effects, and to perform various rituals (mainly unsealing ritual and the method he used to send his alternate self back home).
